Ministry to Social WorkersThe social workers employed by the Department of Human Resources are some of the most overworked, underpaid and underappreciated folks I know of. They are nobody's favorite people. Often, the birth families are mad at them, the foster families are mad at them, the foster children are mad at them, they've got a tremendous case load, a shortage of foster families and are getting pressure from all sides to do everything perfectly even though they're only human. We, as a church ministry like to do something special for Social Worker Appreciation Month (March) to show them that we appreciate the vital service they're providing. As God directs you, please reach out in March (and other months of the year) to show your gratitude to a social worker. One of the things we've done as a token of our appreciation to the staff at DHR is to put together gift bags of donated items and make an appointment to show up at DHR to distribute them to the employees. These bags are in paper lunch sacks decorated by the children at our church. They contain things like microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, gum, mints, a snack and travel size packages of hand sanitizer and facial tissue. When possible, we even tuck gift cards into the bags! These are a huge hit with the folks down at DHR who lay it all on the line each & every day! Charity Havercroft coordinates this with the help of the whole core team.
